FAQ's

 


WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE IN ACCRA?


You are given prior instructions by e-mail, how to meet Prime Care Network representative at the airport without hassle. You will fly to Accra.

 

HOW LONG CAN I VOLUNTEER?


You can volunteer for any length of time between two weeks to twenty-four weeks or more if you want to volunteer for about a year. Our projects are open all year round.

 

DO I NEED TO TAKE ANY SHOTS?


Obligatory to all visitor to Ghana is the YELLOW  FEVER inoculation. The vaccination must be taken at least TEN (10) days before the journey.

 

ARE THERE ANY RISK INVOLVED?


International travel inherently has risks. Ghana is considered as one of the safer countries one can visit in Africa. You must however take the necessary precautions to protect yourself against illness and other travel related risks.

 

HOW MAY I GREATLY REDUCE MY CHANCE OF GETTING ILL?


It is advisable to consult your PHYSICIAN about six weeks (6) before your travel date for any needed vaccinations and prescriptions for anti-malaria medicine. Sleeping under mosquito net is also necessary whilst in Ghana.

 

WHAT ABOUT LODGING?


Free accomodation for volunteers with a screened host family for their time in the country, and they are being assigned with their own bedroom, with a lock. In your room will be a bed with mattress and in most cases a table and chair. You may chose to bring with you a mosquito net and a spare bed sheet. Some houses have showers and flush toilet (more likely in bigger towns). In others you would have to manage with a bucket of water and a pit toilet (more likely in smaller towns). There are always other people in the house as well; and they would be willing to provide you with all the necessary assistances they required.

 

WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?


Free meals for Volunteers are being served at least two times daily ( breakfast and dinner).(local food like plain-rice,yam, banku or kenkey with stew or soup plus fruits.Western fare like pasta and sauce, chicken fried rice etc, are also provided on request depending sometimes on where you’re placed). Vegetarian food is also served.

 

DO I NEED A VISA?


All visitors to Ghana must apply for VISA at the Ghanaian High Commission in their prospective countries. Upon received your deposit, PCN will provide you with a letter to confirm the project, your two references addresses and other tips to help for your VISA application.

 

HOW CAN I JOIN PCN?


Simply go to VOLUNTEER APPLY and fill the application form and submit it. Upon received your application, we will tell you how we can receive your deposit. The remaining balance can be paid on arrival. However confirmed payment of deposit will hold your placement with us.
