CANOPY WALK WAY
Many children in Ghana along the coastal belt and discovered villages cannot afford to go to school. This means that these areas suffer greatly from illiteracy and its associated problems. Prime Care Network has therefore established a school in these areas to provide free basic education for these children.
You would be working alongside local volunteer teachers with children from kindergarten to junior secondary school. One of the school in Osu township currently has approximately 150 children and they are taught in basic subjects such as Maths,English,Science,Social skills, Technical skills, Music/songs, Story telling, paper cuttings, Art/drawing etc., with more children arriving for classes every day. The schools are in constant needs of volunteers to teach, help control the class and for organize recreational activities. Arrangement of excursions with the children to some of the site seeing places (Traditional tour and Eco-touring) organized for all volunteers during the weekends
( Saturdays and Sundays) or Taking a seven to eight itinerary for touring after volunteering for about a month or more.
It is also likely that during the daytime you will teach a few children privately, these are likely to be slightly older children but those who have not received any education so do not posses the basic skills of reading and writing.

In Ghana children end up in orphanage for several reasons. Often when both parents die, the remaining family members are not able to afford to take care of the children. In other instances after giving birth if the parent cannot afford to pay the hospital bill, they will leave before this is necessary, abandoning the child. other children will have been left to die by their mothers, on the street or in rubbish dumps, but having been found in time have been brought to the hospital and if they survive, to the orphanage.Working with one of partner orphanages in either rural or urban area. You will work to take care of the children needs such as preparing their food, bath them, washing their clothing, dressing them, dress their beds, play with them. take them to school and some times help them to do their homework. You can either choose to work in a small orphanage with around 15 orphans or in one of the larger orphanage where they may be up to 150 orphans.

Many of the suffers live in the rural areas without frequent access to medical care, whilst others cannot afford the medication they need. The greatest weapon we have to combat the spread of the virus is education. It is therefore important to teach people to understand the disease and how they can best protect themselves from infection. You will work with the Ministry Of Health and the Ghana Aids Commission to teach awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS to local communities, villages and in schools.
It is also possible to work with HIV/AIDS patients at Hospitals where there is an outpatient scheme and it is possible to travel to the remote villages with some of the doctors in order to visit patients.
Drinking unclean water is one of the commonest cause for illness, it is therefore important not only help provide source of safe clean water but also to educate the people on why this is necessary.
Working in poor rural communities to give education about the need to drink safe water and how they can treat water from rivers and streams in order to make it suitable for drinking and cooking.
Living in unclean areas is also another common cause for illness, however in many areas in Ghana there are problems of rubbish on the streets . This can cause the open gutters to become blocked preventing the unclean water from draining away, this resist pool of stagnant, the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes leading to the spread of malaria.
You will work alongside members of the community to clear rubbish from the streets and the gutters in order to create a safer and healthier environment.
As with any country in the world, academic subjects are not for everybody, we are therefore working to offer vocational skills to some of the youth in order to provide them with the opportunity for a career and a future.
You will work alongside local skilled craftsmen to teach children technical skills, providing them with a career. We currently have projects teaching carpentry and masonry, plumbing, batik, shoe making, sawing, hair dressing etc.
Ghana is a fantastic place to spend time volunteering or interning on an international medical placement in Africa. Volunteering on a Nursing and Midwifery project in Ghana can be done as part of a college summer break, a gap year, a career-break, or during a vacation. You will gain a great deal of valuable work-experience alongside some of the most skilled doctors in the country. The facilities are generally of a decent standard, on a par with many hospitals in the west.
Whether you are a student joining us before receiving medical training, or already have Nursing and Midwifery knowledge and experience, the doctors in Ghana are eager for you to be involved. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn - and also to help staff with their duties - will ensure that your experience is second to none.
When you first arrive at the hospital you will discuss your work schedule with your Projects coordinator.
In Accra, our volunteers work in a large public hospitals .Midwifery volunteers are also required at small local hospitals which specializes in surgical and maternity care.
Ghana is an exciting and popular place to spend some time on a volunteer project .Ghana is an intensely colorful land on the West coast of Africa. Once the British colony known as the 'Gold Coast', it is renowned for the friendliness and warmth of its people. Ghana has great beaches, wild savannah and dense rainforests. This English-speaking country provides volunteers with a wonderful introduction to Africa; it is politically-stable, safe, affordable and rewarding to visit.
All accommodation is organized, paid for and monitored by Projects Abroad. All project placements are regularly visited and checked. We require high standards of supervision and accommodation, which are verified before you arrive in Ghana.
This project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.
While we have a placement at a home specifically for mentally and physically disabled children, you may also find that there are some children with disabilities in the orphanages and other care placements sites as well.
In whichever volunteer care project in Ghana you find yourself, you need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children are desperate for attention and there will undoubtedly be children present who have health problems and who need special attention due to disabilities.
It is in your role as a volunteer - spending time with the children, playing with them and putting a smile on their faces – that Projects Abroad volunteers are so valuable.

Our Community Farm Project offers volunteers the opportunity to work on a small organic farm. Whether taking part in a gap year, summer placement or career break, volunteers and two local members of staff are responsible for maintaining all aspects of the farm including animal care, crop-growing, flower-production, herb-cultivation and land-management. They also arrange school trips to the farm to educate the local children.
Sustainable development and organic agriculture
All volunteers live with local host-families. This project is usually combined with another project in the Akuapem rural community. Volunteers working on the Community Building Project or on a Care or Teaching project in the region could also help on the farm.
Produce which is grown on the farm includes small quantities of oranges, plantains, papaya, carrots, onions, yam and herbs which are used as medicinal remedies. The farm is also home to rabbits, guinea pigs, geese and, once the pond is complete, fish.

Volunteers arrange trips for local schools to visit the farm. Children are then educated about the processes involved in growing crops in a sustainable environment. They also learn how to take care of animals and how to identify seeds and produce herbs. Volunteers receive training from local specialists in the different techniques involved and are given an agricultural text-book, which is part of the curriculum, to use with the school children.
Additional projects for volunteers include:
If you’re on a gap year, summer placement, or career break and want to get your hands dirty, our Community Building Project in Ghana may be right for you. Volunteers who join this project are based either in Eastern region or Central region of Ghana in small villages.
Located about an hour north of Accra and Cape Coast is three hours to the west. Whichever location you work in you will join a team of international volunteers and local people constructing simple buildings in the local communities.
In many areas of Ghana, thousands of families live in inadequate accommodation and children attend school in crumbling buildings. Our construction project allows them to move to new, better quality homes and for the children to receive an education in secure, new classrooms.
The buildings are usually made from mud bricks that are produced by using a press, some mud and water, and then left to harden in the sun. Volunteers help in this process and also with building walls, plastering, and painting. Each house takes an average of one month to construct.
In addition to the basic project, you may also help with landscaping the surrounding area, painting local schools, and renovating classrooms. In the past, volunteers even built a library for few village schools in the Eastern region.
This is a great opportunity to get involved in a rural project and become an integral part of the local community. Our full time regional coordinators live nearby and visit the placements regularly.
Building work takes place early in the morning and late in the afternoon to avoid the hot midday sun, so you'll have plenty of time to get involved in Ghanaian life. Many volunteers immerse themselves in the local community by helping around the kindergarten class or playing soccer with some of the school children once the building work has finished for the day.
La Pleasure Beach, Accra, is popular with tourist and locals, at weekends is attracts around two ( 200 ) thousand visitors whilst on public holidays this number can exceed seven (700) thousand. You would be working alongside a team of local lifesavers to ensure the safety of the visitors in the sea, which can be rough and dangerous. Although the local lifesavers do an excellent job, they have received no formal training, you would therefore also be to assist with CPR and other first aid training as well as helping with their English and communication skills.
If you have love to coach sports and a little sporting ability, then you could play an important part in the personal development of young, Ghanaian men and women who are interested in sports and fitness. Our voluntary sports coaching projects allow the volunteer opportunities to soccer (or football as we call it here), basketball, net ball and other creative physical activities. In addition to the obvious physical and mental benefits that regular exercise provides, there are many inherent life-skills to be learned, such as the importance of team-work, communication and discipline. Volunteer on sports coaching project are participating because PCN and it partners wants to use sports and fitness to promote peace, unity and development among schools and within communities. Volunteers will help in developing passion for sports such as football, basketball, volleyball etc. among school and community kids. Volunteers will also assists in coaching training drills, coordinating skills, and organizing competitions among sports men and women. His project would most likely involve placement at a local school and would also involve some of the tasks required by a normal school volunteer such as teaching classes.
Volunteers who choose this specialization will be providing free computer training to the under-privileged in our ICT computer training centers located in one of the many rural villages throughout Ghana. The volunteer will provide training in any of the following areas: Introduction to computers, Windows, Internet Orientation, Ms. Word, Ms. Excel (spread sheet), Ms. Access, Ms. Power Point and more. Volunteers taking part in our IT project also spend some of their time making sure that the local teachers know how to use computers. This ensures that the project can sustain itself when there are no volunteers around.
Our medical student healthcare programs bring Service and learning into our hospitals and clinics in Ghana. This is as a result of the exodus of our health personnel to developed countries in search for green pastures. These situations have created a vacuum in our hospital and clinic in our communities. Besides, due to inadequate health personnel people die of illness and diseases which would have been prevented if there were health personnel.
Doctors and medical students in search of experience with tropical diseases and developing world medicine will find a very rewarding experience in our medical internship program. Qualifications vary depending on your placement, but some collegiate level experience with medicine is required for all sectors
Volunteers duties are providing health education, taking history of patient, consultation, treating patient and treating wound
Placement in Clinic and Hospital; Volunteers duties are observing and helping in the OPD, consultation room, laboratory etc.
Volunteer typical activities at the hospital or clinic; Volunteers who are interning at the larger hospitals have duties that include providing health education, taking the patient’s history, giving consults, treating patients’ illnesses and wounds. Those placed at the local hospital or in clinics have the responsibility of observing and helping patients in the Out Patient Department, assisting in the consultation room, and running lab tests.
Our biodiversity demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature. Volunteer help teach the local to co-exist with their precious environment through education, community services and conservation work.

On the Beach front of the La Pleasure Beach Resort are a permanent life guarding/life-saving staff of ten (10) adequately trained, young and energetic men. On the a normal beach day, these life/savers are on top of their job doing an excellent job, displaying ethical conduct beyond measures under the circumstances. Working in an infant resort however poses some challenges that one could not gloss over in presenting the situation on the beachfront.
In a hospitality bias industry trying to put itself on the world map, dynamism as a driving force for excellence comes with demands on the lips of clients and patrons at all times, and as patrons/client focused department of the set up, this department of the resort is most of the time hard-pressed with the question of up to date logistics.

Volunteering overseas as a family offers one the most incredible rewarding experiences for all involved. Why furniture and teaching family abroad volunteering? Schools in rural communities have inadequate or lack furniture this make the child to either sit on bear floor or have to carry stool and table from their home walking a long distance to school just to have education which we all know is a right to every individual not excluding the child in the rural area.
Rural communities cannot afford furniture to community school because they are not able to provide three square meal a day to feed the family, let alone think of providing furniture for their children to use in school. All these make children in the rural areas venerable in having better education. More so due to unavailability of furniture in rural school it does not motivation the child to go to school let alone think of educating him/her self. This makes it imperative for family to volunteer in rural areas to provide furniture and at the same time teach in the children some basic English and math.
Volunteering on a furniture family programs also add to a responsible travel since it provides another opportunity for the familyto learning new skills and working as a member of a team. Therefore by experiencing the classroom situation without furniture in the rural communities, which exist in our school, it gives the family the energy to provide a paradigm shift for school in our rural areas by providing furniture to help these children in the rural areas succeed in having effective and efficient learning environment to successfully shape them for the future and at the same time sit and write their national exam with easy Family-volunteering allows your child to discover parts of the world that they would probably never learn about in school in an in-depth way. Family holiday and volunteering on a family program on a furniture and teaching project is a great way for families to experience exciting and new culture together and at the same time give back to society. Also family programs in Africa provide the platform for families to make their children appreciate all the facilities they have back home since the children in Africa do not have all these but they are content with what they have in their environment. You are welcome to this life changing experience.

A responsible travel provides opportunity for the family to learning new skills and working as a member of a team. Family painting is one way of motivating and bringing excitement in children to attend school and learn by themselves in school before they are taught by their respective teachers in rural school.
Schools children in rural communities are not motivated by the school environment just because the environment look very oblique and dark as a result of classroom and building not painted to bring the brightness that will attract the children to come to school. Moreover, when the school environment is painted, and things like vegetables, animals, fruits, days of the week, names of the months etc all drawn and written on school building, it provides the opportunity and room for the child to begin self tuition before undergoing classroom learning.
Volunteering on a painting and artwork family program also add to the beautification of the school thereby improving the aesthetic value of the school environment and make children walk long distance to go to school in big towns and cities just because they look nice. When school buildings are painted it gives the children the energy to succeed in their education by learning in an accommodating environment for great successes.
